Ethel Jane Stacy McMillan of Statesville, N.C., died in Statesville on the 1 day of July, 2011. Mrs. McMillan was born on January 22, 1916 in Gaffney, South Carolina and was the daughter of Edwin Booth Stacy and Ethel Jane Cooksey Stacy. She was valedictorian of Gaffney High School, class of 1932, and a graduate of Limestone College. She was married to William Hazel McMillan on August 25, 1935 and reared four children; William Hannon McMillan (Eleanor) of Statesville; Harriet McMillan Chamberlain of Beech Mountain, N.C.; Lyn McMillan Crank (Dr. Don) of West Des Moines, IA and Joseph Edwin McMillan (Mary Katherine Parks) of Winston-Salem, N.C. Preceding her in death were her husband who died on September 22, 1973 and her brothers, Edwin, Neil, William and Acum as well as her sisters, Helen Stacy Burrell and Edith Stacy Willis. She is survived by one sister, Miriam Stacy McLeod of Charlotte, N.C. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Stacy McMillan Chapman of Statesville and Mary Hannon McMillan Packard of Richmond, VA, Barret McMillan Crank, Meredith Crank Bishop and Andrew Robinson Crank of West Des Moines, IA, Katie Jane McMillan of Wilmington, N.C. and Carter Andrew McMillan of Winston-Salem, N.C. She is further survived by seven great-grandchildren. Mrs. McMillan embarked upon a career as a social worker after her children were grown. She retired as a supervisor with the Mecklenburg County Department of Social Services and moved to Statesville in 1990. She quickly made friends among the members of First Baptist Church, Statesville Women's Club and bridge players at the Senior Center. Mrs. McMillan enjoyed reading, cooking for her family, and travel. She made numerous trips to Florida, New York City, California and Europe. She was an accomplished seamstress who was able to make beautiful dresses for her daughters and granddaughters. She knitted a special afgan for each child and grandchild. A graveside service will be held for the family at Sharon Memorial Park in Charlotte, N.C. followed by a memorial service at First Baptist Church, Statesville on July 5, 2011 at 4 pm. The family will visit with friends following the services in the fellowship hall.
