Ethel Mae Kirkland

Mrs. Ethel Mae Barker Kirkland, 78, of Cleveland, died Saturday, August 20, 2016 at the Gordon Hospice House. Born August 24, 1937 in Iredell County, she was a daughter of the late Don Preston Barker and Beulah Mae Souther Barker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Virgil Kirkland whom she married on May 24, 1969, and a sister, Mamie Lou Barker Nicholson. Ethel retired from Elmer's Products and formerly worked at Intercraft Industries. She loved to travel and was a graduate of Harmony High School. Survivors include a daughter, Carolyn Diane Sherrill (Todd) and a son, Jeffrey Scott Kirkland, a brother, Leon Preston Barker and a sister, Patricia Ann Morrison. She is also survived by grandsons: Christopher Lynn Harris and Joseph Adam Harris. Also surviving are great grandchildren: Brittany Alexis Wilson, Skylar Addison Harris and Michael Grayson Harris. Additional survivors include her adopted special sisters, Amanda Leonard, Linda Fox and Brenda Story. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 Thursday, August 25, 2016 at Nicholson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Fred Shoemaker and Rev. Ricky Safriet officiating. Entombment will follow at Iredell Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 7:00 to 9:00 P.M. at Nicholson Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be: Todd Sherrill, Christopher Harris, Adam Harris, Jonathan Morrison, Phillip Barker, Joe Barker and Mike Morrison.
