Mrs. Esther Elizabeth Gaither Campbell, 88, of Harmony, passed away Thursday, June 21, 2012, at Gordon Hospice House. Mrs. Campbell was born March 26, 1924 in Iredell County and was the daughter of the late Alexander Milton and Elizabeth Nichols Gaither. She was a graduate of Harmony High School where she had perfect attendance for her full 11 years of school. On December 24, 1941, she was married to William Hermon Campbell, who preceded her in death on April 21, 2007 after 65 years of marriage. Mrs. Campbell was a homemaker and farmer. She enjoyed spending time with her family and working on her farm where she raised chickens and beef cattle. She enjoyed painting, sewing, quilting, cooking and especially canning her home-grown fruits and vegetables. Her spare time was spent with her Senior Friends Club at Davis Hospital and selling Stanley Home Products. She was a member of Clarksbury United Methodist Church and a charter member of Clarksbury Homemakers Club. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Campbell was also preceded in death by five brothers, Ralph, Roy, Richard, A.M. Jr. and John, along with two sisters, Virginia Jones and Louise Cartner. Mrs. Campbell is survived by two sons, Jerry Campbell (Frances) and Larry Campbell (Pat), and one daughter, Joyce C. Dobson (Hal, Jr.), all of Harmony. She is also survived by four grandsons, Terry Campbell (Leigh Ann), Mike Campbell (Kelly), John Campbell (Meghan) and Jason Dobson (Erica); four granddaughters, Emily Thomas (Dan), Sally Hamilton (Patrick), Kimberly Dobson and Kristen Benfield (Jason). She is further survived by 10 great grandchildren, Heather, Brandon, Allison, and Megan Campbell and Cameron and Riley Dobson, Levi and Hannah Benfield, Abigail and Alexander Thomas and one great-great-granddaughter Abigail Campbell. She is survived by one brother, James Gaither. Other survivors include Mary Gaither, Aldora Gaither John Ray Campbell (Carolyn), Glen Campbell (Elizabeth), Marianna Miller (Bill) and Jimmy Bray. A funeral service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Campbell will be conducted 2:00 PM Monday, June 25, 2012 at Clarksbury United Methodist Church with Rev. Mandy Jones officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will visit with friends Sunday evening from 7:00 until 9:00 PM at Clarksbury United Methodist Church. The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the staff at Gordon Hospice House for their loving care and also to her caregivers, Betty Thompson, Darlene Jackson, Deborah Kennedy, Helen York, and Polly Sharpe for their love and care to mother during her illness. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Clarksbury United Methodist Church Cemetery fund 924 E. Memorial Hwy, Harmony, NC 28634.
