Elson Potter

William Elson Potter, 81, of Statesville, passed away Friday, January 28, 2011. Formerly of Gaffney and Chesnee, S.C., he was educated at Chesnee High School, Gardner Webb Junior College and Limestone College. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and retired from the Fluor Daniels Company following many years of service. Born May 19, 1929, in Cherokee County, S.C., he was the son of the late Onzie G. and Mary Vassey Potter. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brother, Grover Neal Potter, nephew, Brian K. Holt, and brother-in-law, Harry Lee Newton. Mr. Potter is survived by sister, Maxine Holt and husband Bert of Statesville, a nephew, Darrell N. Holt of Statesville. He is also survived by sisters, Colleen Newton and Ondean Vassy (Steve) of Chesnee, S.C., and Dorine Wood (Larry) of Mayo, S.C. Graveside funeral services will be conducted 4:00 PM Tuesday, February 1, 2011, at Oakwood Cemetery in Statesville with Rev. Grant Sutphin officiating.
