Effie Summers

Effie Holland Summers, 96, of Statesville, passed away, Friday, August 7, 2015 at her home surrounded by her family. Ms. Summers was born October 2, 1918 in Olin, NC and was the daughter of the late Everette and Polly Reavis Garris. She attended Cherry Grove School in Wilkes County and was married to the late George Summers, who died in 1988. She formerly worked for Paradise Acres and loved working in her garden with her flowers and especially loved spending time with her grandchildren. She was active in her garden until her health began to decline 2 months ago. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by three sons, Auther Frank Holland, Willie Wilborn Holland, James Everette Holland and one daughter, Annie Mae Hartness. She is survived by six children, Lonnie Holland (Linda), Robert Holland, Mary Hicks (Grady), Kathleen Ellis, Martha Sue Eppic (Mike) and Patricia Roberson; 36 grandchildren and many great and great great grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 10, 2015 in the Nicholson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Buster Treadaway officiating. Burial will follow in the Iredell Memorial Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at Nicholson Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Iredell County, 2347 Simonton Rd., Statesville, NC 28625. Nicholson Funeral Home is serving the family of Ms. Effie Summers.
