Edith "Edie" Harris

June 8, 1927 — January 20, 2018

Edith "Edie" Plyler Harris made her heavenly journey on Saturday, January 20, 2018. At 90 years old, she lived in Statesville before moving to Autumn Care on May 1, 2017. After a lengthy stay at Iredell Memorial Hospital, Edie passed calmly and peacefully on to be with her Jesus at the Gordon Hospice House surrounded by her loving family. Edith was born on June 8, 1927 to Elmer Clyde Plyler and Clarice Link Plyler in Iredell County. She was a graduate of Statesville Senior High School. Edie was active in clubs and honor societies. She attended the local Mitchell Women's College. Edith worked for the very prominent Spainhour's Department Store in Hickory and downtown Statesville. Her passion was shoes. She loved selling beautiful shoes to the women of Iredell County. After being a homemaker and raising her children, Edie had several other jobs in retail, antiques, and Avon. She enjoyed trips to the beach, shopping, Nascar, listening to country music, Kid Rock, Elvis, Billy Idol, and her family. Edie was a lifelong member of Boulevard Methodist Church where she held numerous positions such as Sunday School Teacher and Kitchen Committee. Edie is survived by her loving husband, Paul Revere "Sonny" Harris of Statesville. They have been married for 70 years, and could almost finish each other's thoughts. They met and married at the same church where their parents were also lifetime members. She is also survived by Paula Harris Mason (GF) of Statesville, Timothy Link Harris (Jan) of Chesterfield, SC, and Marty Harris of the home. Grandchildren include Stephanie Mishoe, Chris Johnson, Emily Harris, Maleia Mason, and Dayna Mason Posada. Edie also had nine great grandchildren, many cousins, nieces, and nephews. She is also survived by a sister-in-law, Helen Harris Mayfield (Gordon), brothers-in-law, Melvin Harris (Shirley), and JD Harris (Marie). Preceding her in death were Ruth "Cootie" Harris Ostwalt (John), and Dot Harris Harmon (David). The Harris family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. James Foushee and his staff for their compassion and love. We also want to thank the nurses at IMH. Thanks and appreciation to Autumn Care staff! You were wonderful to our mom and to us. You helped us during a very difficult transition. The family will receive family and friends at Nicholson Funeral Home on Tuesday, January 23, 2018 from 1:00 until 2:15 pm. A Celebration Memorial Service will follow at 2:30 pm in the Chapel at Nicholson Funeral Home. At other times, the family will assemble at the residence. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the American Red Cross, 1710 Davie Ave., Statesville, NC, 28677 and the Gordon Hospice House, 2347 Simonton Road, Statesville, NC 28625.
