Duke York

March 31, 1940 — October 24, 2014

Mr. Duke Lincoln York, 74, of Statesville, passed away Friday, October 24, 2014, at the Gordon Hospice House. Mr. York was born March 31, 1940, in Iredell County and was the son of the late Noble Simpson York and Ella Mae Mayberry York. He attended Harmony school and was a former member of Harmony Baptist Church but attended The Horizon Church. He was formerly married to Martha Ann Gaither York. Mr. York was a truck driver for 48 years and retired from Quality Carriers driving long distances as well as locally. He had a great love for the mountains and old western movies, especially John Wayne movies. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Anita Joan York on April 2, 2014, along with a brother, Kenneth A. York and his wife Jan. Mr. York is survived by two daughters, Pamela Diane York Burr and Teresa Leigh York Moose, both of Statesville along with four grandchildren, Kendall Burr, Chris Moose, Andrew Moose, and Matthew Walker. He is also survived by two great-granddaughters, Krista and Lila, a brother, Larry York (Carol), and four nephews along with his canine companion, Penny. Funeral services for Mr. York will be conducted 3:00 PM Tuesday, October 28, 2014, at The Horizon Church, 316 Signal Hill Drive, Statesville, with Pastor Charles Williams and Rev. Dr. Bobby Henderson officiating. Burial will follow in Clarksbury United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will visit with friends from 2:00 until 3:00 PM Tuesday at the church.
