Dr. Otway O'Meara Pardee

June 26, 1920 — December 4, 2018

Dr. Otway O'Meara Pardee, 98, of Statesville passed away Tuesday, December 4th.



Dr. Pardee was born June 26, 1920 in Seattle Wash. and was the son of the late Otway Pardee and Mary Gertrude O'Meara Pardee. He was a graduate of University of Washington and earned his PhD in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University in 1948. He served with the U.S. Navy 1944-1946. He married the late Marilynn Lowrie on August 9th 1946. One daughter, Irene Degl'Innocenti (Robert) preceded him in death and is survived by two daughters, Loraine Watt (Harry) of Statesville and Suzanne Pardee of Seattle, Wash. He is also survived by two granddaughters, Sarah Degl'Innocenti of Emerald Hills, Calif. and Cedar Pardee-Lewis of Seattle, Wash. He is survived by several cousins, including Nelson Pardee of Camillus, and Hazel Pardee Newlen of Syracuse.



He and his wife, Lynn, raised their family in Syracuse, NY. They were married for 57 years until her passing in 2004. At Syracuse University he taught Mathematics from 1948 to 1962, was director of the academic computer center from 1962 to 1969. Dr. Pardee finished his career as a full professor in the School of Computer and Information Science from 1969 to 1985. He was a member of many professional organizations of which the AAUP was very important to him. He was also a member of the SAR. He moved to Statesville in 2013 and lived with daughter Loraine and son-in-law Harry.



The family invites friends, students and extended family of Dr. Pardee to come to a celebration of his life on Saturday, June 15th to visit with the family and share remembrances. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Syracuse University attention EECS Discretionary Fund (which will benefit computer science students) or to a college of your choice.
