Douglas Worlds Goforth

Mr. Douglas Worlds "D.W" Goforth, 86, of Statesville, passed away Monday, March 13, 2017, at Davis Regional Medical Center. Mr. Goforth was born in Mt. Airy, NC on September 27, 1930, and was the son of the late Lonnie G. Goforth and Gertrude Warden Goforth. He attended Iredell County schools and served with the National Guard. On June 24, 1950, he married Caroleta Lipe Goforth, who survives. D.W. was a member of Faith Baptist Church. He served as a Deacon, choir member, served on the building committee and Sunday school teacher. He sang alto with the quartet The Impels. D.W. also served as a volunteer with the Iredell Correctional Center for 23 years and served as the chaplain for several of those years. He worked for Bell Construction and retired after 23 years from Johnson Construction as a heavy equipment mechanic. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Ada G. Thomas and Jeanette Goforth and two brothers, Hoyle Goforth and L.G. Goforth. D.W. shared 66 years with his wife Caroleta before his death. He is also survived by three sons, Tony Goforth (Sherri) of Southern Pines, Rev. Doug Goforth (Debbie) of Morganton and R. Keith Goforth (Mary) of Statesville; grandchildren, Rodney Goforth of Statesville, Ashley Goforth of Southern Pines, Kelly Goforth of Granite Falls, Brian Goforth and Brandon Goforth, both of Morganton. He is further survived by one sister, Doris G. Williard of Statesville. Funeral services honoring the life of D.W. Goforth will be conducted 2:00 PM Thursday, March 16, 2017, in the Nicholson Funeral Home Chapel, 135 E. Front Street, Statesville, with Rev. Doug Goforth officiating. Burial will follow in the Iredell Memorial Gardens Cemetery. The family will visit with friends from 12:30 until 2:00 PM at Nicholson Funeral Home. Active pallbearers will be Rodney, Brian and Brandon Goforth, James McDaniels, Jeff Medlin and Tim Pope. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or to Hospice and Palliative Care of Iredell County, 2347 Simonton Road, Statesville, NC 28625.
