Dorothy Mae Podoll Holcombe, 79, of Statesville, passed away Friday, November 7, 2014 at the Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center from injuries received in an automobile accident. She was born in Richmond, Virginia on October 19, 1935 to the late Norman S. and Margaret Podoll. Dot graduated from St. Patrick's High School and moved to North Carolina in 1956. She graduated from Mitchell Community College as a Certified Nursing Assistant. She was married to Sam F. Holcombe who preceded her death on October 9, 1978. She was a former Secretary and Bookkeeper at First Presbyterian Church in Statesville for ten year. In recent years, she was employed at Autumn Care of Statesville and was employee of the year in 2003. She was a member of Civitan Breakfast Club and was awarded Outstanding Secretary of the Year two years in a row and also secretary of the year another year. Dot was a member of Monticello Baptist Church where she was active in the Christian Hearts Sunday School Class and the Golden Jubilee. She loved gardening, her dogs, reading, playing canasta, and knitting. Mrs. Holcombe is survived by her son, Rodney Hellard (Janet) of Advance, and two grandsons, Justin and Bradley Hellard. She is also survived by two very dear friends, Tori Tolliver of Jonesville, TN and Shirley A. Johnson of Statesville. Memorial services will be held 12:00 PM Monday, November 10, 2014 at Monticello Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Bobby Henderson officiating. Burial will be held at a later date. The family will visit with friends at the church prior to the service from 11:00 AM until 12:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Music Ministry of Monticello Baptist Church, 3603 Taylorsville Hwy, Statesville, NC 28625.
