Mrs. Dorothy (Dot) Cashion Stewart, 95, of Statesville, died Wednesday at the Gordon Hospice House. Born in Rowan County on October 6, 1921, she was a daughter of the late Lee Cashion and Ada Padgett Cashion. Dot was married on March 24, 1940 to Mr. Parks Lee Stewart who died in 2005. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Joe Cashion. Dot was the Valedictorian of her graduating class at Celeste Henkel School in 1938. She was a homemaker and a member of New Bethany Baptist Church where she was a member of the Friendship Sunday School Class. She enjoyed being a Pink Lady at Iredell Memorial Hospital where she logged over 7800 volunteer hours and made baby caps also. She enjoyed crocheting, crafts, and crossword puzzles. Survivors include a son, Parks Wayne Stewart (Libby) of Statesville and two daughters, Becky Pruett (Howell) of West Jefferson and Carolyn Poole (David) of Statesville. Also surviving are grandchildren: Scott Morgan, Lisa Morgan Moore(Brian), Jonathan Stewart (Cary), Susan Stewart, Kimberly Poole and Daniel Poole, great grandchildren: Megan Morgan, McKenzie Morgan, Lindsay Morgan, Gregory Moore and Hannah Moore and great great grandchildren: Anne Stewart and Devin Poole. Her cat, Squeaky, also survives her. Services celebrating Dot's life will be conducted at 3:00 P.M. Saturday, October 1, 2016 at New Bethany Baptist Church with Rev. Bill Mason officiating. She will lie in state and the family will receive friends in the sanctuary from 1:30 until 3:00 prior to the service and burial will follow in the church cemetery.
