Dorothy Shook

Dorothy H. Shook, 88, of Statesville, passed away peacefully Sunday, September 16, 2018 surrounded by loved ones.



Known to everyone as Dot Mama Dot or Dot Dot, she loved her family with passion. A passion we will never forget. She was born August 10, 1930 in Matthews, NC to the late Lester M. Harqett and Z. Grace Herron. On August 16, 1949, she married William F. Shook, who preceded her in death after 63 years of marriage.



She was one of eight children and surviving are two sisters, Bobbie Jo Ridenhour (Lloyd) and Ruby McLeod. Also two brothers, Arvin Harqett and Carl Harqett. She was preceded in death by her sister, Arzell Rankin and two brothers, Marlon Harqett and Odean Harqett.



Surviving are her children, a daughter, Amye Shook Hines (James) and a son, Danny Shook of Brevard, NC. Her grandchildren, Will Palmer, Grace Cunningham, Anna Baldwin, Andrew Shook and Jesse Hines. Her great grandchildren, Will Palmer, Jr., Tyler Palmer, Madison Barnett, Ali Hines, Avery Hines, Wyatt Shook and Levi Burgin.



Memorial services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 19, 2018 at New Bethany Baptist Church with Rev. Bill Mason officiating. The family will visit with friends following the service and a private family burial will be held at a later date.



A special thank you to her best friends, Bobbie Brown, Linda Boggs and Gloria Anderson for their love and faithfulness through many years. Also to Gordon Hospice House, I could have not done it without you.
