Dorothy Palmes

Mrs. Dorothy Murphree Palmes of The Pines, Davidson NC passed away August 22, 2014, at the Gordon Hospice House. She was born December 15, 1923, in Elba, Alabama to the late F. Harris and Mildred Boyd Murphree. After graduating from high school, she attended Millsaps College and graduated from the University of Alabama where she was a member of the Chi Omega Sorority. On December 28, 1944, she married Dr. Wesley C. Palmes Jr. who predeceased her in 1984. She was a member of Broad Street United Methodist Church. Mrs. Palmes is survived by two sons Wesley C. Palmes III (Mary Moore) and Robert C. Palmes (Mary Wilson) of Statesville; three granddaughters, Cameron Palmes Smith (Justin) of Wilmington, Sarah Robinson Palmes of Charlotte, and Kathryn Leigh Palmes of Raleigh; two grandsons, Robert C. Palmes Jr., Thomas Wesley Palmes of Statesville; and great granddaughter, Vivian Rose Smith. Mrs. Palmes is also survived by a brother Boyd Murphree of Elba, Alabama and a sister Marjorie Rainer of Birmingham, Alabama as well as numerous nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, August 26th, 2014, at 11:00am at Oakwood Cemetery with the Rev. Dr. Michael Gehring officiating. The family will receive friends Monday August 25, 2014, from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at the home of Bob and Mary Palmes, 3224 Broadmoor Drive, Statesville NC. The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of The Pines Healthcare in Davidson for their caring service and friendship over the past seven years and to the wonderful staff of the Gordon Hospice House.
