Dorothy Jean Gaither, aged 87, passed away peacefully of natural causes on March 26, 2025, in Statesville, NC. Born on November 16, 1937, in the serene landscapes of Iredell County, NC, Dorothy lived a life marked by grace, warmth, and an unwavering love for her family and passions.
Dorothy's journey as a dedicated print finisher showcased her meticulous nature and commitment to her work. Her career was not only a testament to her skill but also to her perseverance and dedication. Outside of her professional life, she found joy and solace in the simple pleasures of life, such as reading, planting, and gardening. Her love for dogs and cats was well-known among friends and family, and she often remarked that her pets were among her greatest companions.
A past member of Race Street Methodist Church, Dorothy's faith provided her with strength and guidance throughout her life. Although she did not seek accolades or notable achievements, Dorothy's true legacy resides in the lives she touched with her kindness and generosity of spirit.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her beloved parents, Lloyd Parks Edwards and Lacy James Edwards, as well as her brother, David Franklin Edwards. She leaves behind a loving family who will forever cherish her memory: her daughter, Jennifer Stevenson, and son-in-law, Paul Stevenson; her son, Allen Gaither, and daughter-in-law, Marie Gaither. Her grandsons, Matthew Stevenson and Daniel Stevenson, will carry forward her legacy of love and integrity.
The family will hold a private service at a later date to celebrate Dorothy's life and honor her enduring impact on those who knew her. As we reminisce about the times shared, may we find inspiration in her unwavering spirit and the love she imparted to those around her.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests honoring Dorothy's memory through acts of kindness to those in need or by planting a tree or garden in her honor—a fitting tribute to a woman who cherished life's natural beauty and nurtured it with tenderness.
Dorothy's life was a testament to the power of simplicity, love, and resilience. May her spirit continue to inspire us all.
