Doris Jane Privette Mitchell

Doris Jane Privette Mitchell, 82, of Statesville, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, July 15, 2019 at her home. Doris was born in Iredell County on May 27, 1937 and was the daughter of the late Quince Iredell Privette and Margret Arizona Munday Privette.

She was a graduate of Iredell County schools.

She was married to Thomas Jefferson Mitchell on May 14, 1954 and together they shared 55 years of marriage until his passing on September 4, 2009.

Doris was retired from Sara Lee Intimates where she worked as a receiving clerk.

Doris was known for her flower garden and many prom pictures were made in her garden. She loved her church and church family at Hebron Baptist Church where she was a long-time member. Nothing compared to the love she had for her family and especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be missed by all who knew her.

In addition to her husband and parents, Doris was preceded in death by five brothers, Jerry, Conard, Ray, Jay, and Hubert Privette along with one sister, Violet P. Mills.

Left to cherish her memory are her two children, Kenny Mitchell (Frances) of Columbia, SC and Karen M. Naylor of Statesville along with three grandchildren, John T. Naylor (Brittney), Matthew R. Naylor (Allyson) and Joshua D. Mitchell. She is also survived by three great-grandchildren, Luke R. Naylor, Emma G. Naylor, and Eleanor L. Naylor and one brother, Junior Privette.

Funeral services honoring the life of Doris Mitchell will be conducted at 2:00 PM Saturday, July 20, 2019 at Hebron Baptist Church with Rev. Darren Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will visit with friends following the committal service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the 5th Street Ministries, 1421 5th Street, Statesville, NC 28677 or to the Hospice and Palliative Care of Iredell, 2341 Simonton Road, Statesville, NC 28625.

The family would like to extend many thanks to her beloved caregiver Lillian Lackey and her wonderful Queens Quest neighbors.
