Doris Buford Church

Mrs. Doris Buford Church, age 86, of Statesville, passed away Thursday, November 13, 2014 at the Gordon Hospice House. Mrs. Church was born January 25, 1928 in Gaston County to the late James Gordon Buford and Elizabeth Harrison Buford. She attended Gaston County schools and on July 22, 1950 was married to Clyde Richard Church who preceded her in death. Mrs. Church was a member of Northview Freewill Baptist Church. She retired from Jansen's and had worked at J.P. Stevens as a knitting supervisor. Mrs. Church was a member of the Women's Auxiliary 2031 of the VFW. Surviving are her sisters, Mary Eunice Buford Brown of Mooresville and Mildred B. McCrary of Statesville. She is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews and her adopted family and church friends, Kenneth Lee Staley and wife Cheryl of Statesville. Mrs. Church was preceded in death by two sisters; (infant) Dorothy Buford and Rachel Murph, three brothers, Spencer Buford, James T. Buford and James G. Buford, Jr. Funeral services for Mrs. Doris Buford Church will be held on Saturday, November 15, 2014 at 2:00 PM in the Nicholson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Blain Keaton and Rev. Jerry Varner officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday evening from 6:00-8:00 PM at Nicholson Funeral Home.
