Donald Ray Webber

Mr. Donald Ray Webber, Sr., 82, of Statesville, entered his Heavenly home on Tuesday, April 12, 2016, at the Gordon Hospice House. Mr. Webber was born in Iredell County on January 13, 1934, and was the son of the late Robert Houston Webber and Carrie Hefner Webber Jordan. He was a graduate of Statesville High School class of 1952 and on May 24, 1955, he married Louise Connolly Webber, who preceded him in death on April 3, 2003. He was a member of Front Street Baptist Church where he served as a former Deacon. Mr. Webber started his working career at nine years old delivering papers for the Statesville Record & Landmark. He delivered papers until he joined the military and upon his return from active duty in 1958, he continued to work for the Record & Landmark for 50 years and retired as Composing Superintendent. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and served during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the American Legion Post 65, VFW Post 2031 where he served as Post Quarter Master, Commander for three years and District 14 Commander for two years. He was also a member of TPA for 34 years and served as President for four years. He was also a member of the Statesville Odd Fellows Lodge. In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Webber was preceded in death by four brothers, Clay, Robert, Dawson Webber and one at birth along with four sisters, Lorene W. Jordan, Mildred W. Scott Somers, Kathleen W. Warren, and Mary-Helen Webber. Left to cherish his memory are two daughters, Sharon Webber Privette (Dennis) of Hiddenite and Donna Webber Bennett (Mike) of Statesville along with one son, Donald Ray Webber, Jr. (Jeannie) of Statesville. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Kevin Privette (Rachel), Joel Privette (Bess), Katie Bennett Garrity (Sean), Andrew Bennett, Will Bennett (Mary-Chandler), Mari Katherine Webber Nolan (Danny) and John Ray Webber along with eight great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Mr. Webber will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Saturday, April 16, 2016, at Front Street Baptist Church with Rev. Tim Stutts officiating. Burial with full military honors provided by the Iredell County Veterans Council Burial Detail will follow in the Iredell Memorial Gardens Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Friday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Nicholson Funeral Home and at other times will be assembled at the home of Donna and Mike Bennett, 920 Brookwood Ct, Statesville Active pallbearers will be Kevin Privette, Joel Privette, Andrew Bennett, Will Bennett, John Ray Webber, Sean Garrity, and Keith Somers. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Hospice and Palliative Care of Iredell County, 2347 Simonton Road, Statesville, NC 28625.
