Donald Lee Howard

Donald "Don" Lee Howard, 81, of Harmony, passed away on Friday, October 7, 2016, at Iredell Memorial Hospital following an extended illness. Mr. Howard was born in Rowan County on May 11, 1935, and was the son of the late Kesler Lee Howard and Hattie Mae Morgan Howard. He was a graduate of China Grove High School. On February 6, 1988, he married Kathy Morrison Howard, who survives. He was a member of the Statesville Masonic Lodge #27 AF&AM and also a member of First Baptist Church in China Grove. Don had a variety of skills having worked for Duke Power as a lineman; had his own Mac Tool route where he could be reached most times by his handle "Tool Man" on the CB Radio. He also sold Town Craft cookware but nothing was more enjoyable than when he was owner and operator of Don's Clip Joint where he worked as a cosmetologist. His last adventure took him to JR's Outlet where he worked in security. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Neeka King and a brother, Gene Howard. He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Kathy Howard of the home, three daughters, Sabrina Furr (Ron) of Mt. Pleasant, Angie Duncan (David) of Hiddenite, and Dana Pearson (Tim) of Indian Trail along with two sons, David "Mo" Howard (Darlene) of China Grove and Sam Howard (Desiree) of El Centro, CA. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, Kim McCrary, Bridgett King, Rane Furr, Dalton Howard, Dedra Howard, Evan Howard, Paris Howard, Aunika Pearson and Ari Cole Pearson along with two great grandchildren, Courtney and Kayleigh McCrary. Funeral services honoring Don's life will be conducted at 7:00 PM Tuesday, October 11, 2016, in the Nicholson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Tim Stutts officiating. The family will visit with friends Tuesday afternoon from 5:30 until 7:00 pm at the funeral home. Burial will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, PO Box 4138, Fullerton, CA 92834, or to Rescue Ranch, 1424 Turnersburg Hwy, Statesville, NC 28625, or to the Masonic Home for Children at Oxford, 600 College St, Oxford, NC 27565.
