Dolores Williams Dorsey

December 19, 1946 — July 7, 2021

Dolores S. Williams "Pumpkin" was born December 19, 1946 in Laurens County South Carolina to the proud parents of Veronica S. Shands and the late James Earl Shands. The family later relocated to New York City in 1954 where Dolores continued her early childhood school years. She was a member of Second St. John's Baptist Church in Harlem, New York where she sung in the choir as she began her spiritual life in Christ. Dolores graduated from Commerce High School in New York City, class of "1964". During her high school years she found her first love and married her high school sweetheart, Robert F. Williams. They had two children, Troy F. and Dawn W. Williams. Dolores worked many odd jobs in her young years, Choc Full of Nuts, being one of many. She spent most of her working career serving 36 years for the United States Postal Service Processing & Distribution Center, 90 Church Street, New York City. This was directly across the street from the world renown "World Trade Center" Twin Towers. She later transferred to another Distribution Center known as "Morgan Station" near Rockefeller Center & Theater District in New York City. Dolores has worked with hundreds and thousands of people throughout her life which has helped foster her HUGE personality as she was loved by so many. Dolores was most known for her gifts of giving, cooking, home decorating, shopping and entertaining. If you met her and hung around her long enough a gift was coming your way. Dolores retired and relocated to Thomasville, NC to be closer to her mother. She then later found love again and married in April 2012 to a long time friend of over 50 years, Arthur Dorsey. She joined the Senior Club and visited many surrounding churches. Dolores was preceded in death by her father, James Earl Shands and her son Troy F. Williams. To cherish her legacy of love, Dolores leaves her husband, Arthur Dorsey, her mother, Veronica S. Jackson, daughter and son-in-law Sammie & Dawn W. Doss, Jr., granddaughter, Kaylyn Doss of New Jersey; step son, Corey Williams of Florida; uncle, Julian Swittenberg of Maryland and a host of cousins and extended family and friends. *See photo and videos section for memorial service information
