Doc Cass

Gilbert "Doc" Russell Cass, 90, of Statesville, passed away Monday, June 3, 2013 at Iredell Memorial Hospital. Mr. Cass was born May 25, 1923 in Wilkes County and was the son of the late Romas Cass and Ida Moore Cass. He attended Iredell County Schools and he was a member of Sweet Home Baptist Church. He was a farmer and later worked for J.P. Stevens where he retired. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a devoted brother, loving uncle to all his nieces and nephews and a second father to many. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by five brothers and five sisters, Radford Cass, Harvey Cass, Marvey Cass, Orville Cass, Otis Cass, Nina C. Nicholson, Eva Cass, Estelle Gregory, Rachel Cass and Ezetta Cass. He is survived by one sister, Minnie Lou Cass Dotson of Union Grove and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 pm Thursday, June 6, 2013 at Sweet Home Baptist Church with Rev. R.C. Redmond officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will visit with friends Wednesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 pm at Nicholson Funeral Home. Active pallbearers will be Brandon and Casey Jolly, Christian Campbell and Grey, Darrell and Leon Cass.
