Mrs. Deidra Laverne Cashion Brawley, 70, of Statesville, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, December 1, 2017, at Wake Forest Baptist Hospital. She was born August 30, 1947, in Rowan County and was the daughter of Helen Hattaway Cashion and the late Coite Pressley Cashion. She graduated from Troutman High School and graduated from the Davis Hospital School of Nursing and received her BS Degree in nursing from Gardner Webb University. Mrs. Brawley served as a nurse in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam war reaching the rank of Lieutenant. Mrs. Brawley was married October 30, 1992, to Robert W. "Bob" Brawley, and together they shared 25 years of marriage until her death. She worked in administration at both Iredell Memorial Hospital and Davis Regional Medical Center and retired following 40 years in nursing. In her later years, she and Bob were very involved with the VFW Post 2031 as well as the DAV, and very active in helping fellow veterans. In her addition to her husband, Bob, and her mother, Helen, Deidra is survived by a brother, Richard Cashion (Judy), two nephews, Steven and Bill Cashion, stepson, Robert C. Brawley, stepdaughter, Robin Brawley Hopeck (Scott) and grandson, Zachary Hopeck. She is also survived by her fur babies, Babe, Kitty, & Pooh Pooh. At Deidra's request, there will be no formal services. Memorials may be made honoring the life of Deidra Brawley to the charity of the donor's choice.
