David Marshall Redmond

February 10, 1942 — March 22, 2019

Dr. David Marshall Redmond, 77, of Union Grove, NC passed away March 22nd, 2019 at Carolinas Continue Care Hospital in Pineville, NC; surrounded by family, after a long series of illnesses. He was born February 10th, 1942; son of Mott and Virgie Redmond. He is survived by his 100-year-old mother, Virgie Redmond; loving wife of 39 years, Annette Shoulars Redmond; son, David Marshall Redmond, Jr.; daughter, Leigh Ellen Redmond and son, Benjamin (Madeline) Redmond, with four grandchildren, Paisley, Liam, Maddie and Halli; brother, Donald Redmond and sister, Becky Hager. He was preceded in death by his father Mott Somers Redmond and his sister, Martha Ellen Redmond.

He was a graduate of Western Carolina College, earning a Bachelors in Biology and History and a Masters in Education Administration. He later earned an Education Specialist degree from East Carolina University and a Doctorate in Education from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. His passion for children of all ages propelled a career of 36 years in education, including posts as a teacher, assistant principal and principal, most recently in Iredell County Schools.

He was a man of many achievements, with special life-long devotion to his church, community and family farm. He was a faithful member of and loved very much Grassy Knob Baptist Church. He cherished spending time with his grandchildren, collecting bottles, swapping stories with friends, and making others laugh.

The family will receive friends on Monday evening, March 25th from 6-9pm at Nicholson Family Funeral Services of Statesville, NC. The funeral service will be held at Grassy Knob Baptist Church at 2pm on Tuesday, March 26th with a graveside service to follow.

The family would like to thank the staff of Iredell Memorial Hospital, Select Specialty Acute Care of Moses Cone Hospital, Carolinas Medical Center, and Carolinas Continue Care Hospital. The family would also like to thank all the friends and family for their kind words, thoughts and prayers through this difficult time.
