Mr. David Monroe Byrd, age 84, passed away August 3, 2024, at the Gordon Hospice House in Statesville, N.C.
He was born in Elkin, N.C. to the late Rev. John Preston Byrd and Hazel Settle Byrd. He was also preceded in death by his loving wife of 53 years, Mattie Jane Byrd; loving daughter, Tina Pope; brother Jerry Byrd; and sister Betty Cudd.
David’s love for the Lord resonated in every part of his life, but especially through the sparkle in his eyes, joyful smile upon his face, and the love he showed to others. He enjoyed visiting people, spreading the Gospel of the Lord, church, fishing, playing rook, cooking, eating, and feeding his loved ones. Pointing to heaven, he would often share his excitement about going to meet Jesus.
Those left to cherish and honor his memory include: his son, Billy Byrd (wife, Tina); his daughter, Terrace Hall (husband, Tony); son-in-law, Rickie Pope; grandchildren, Starr Langenstein (husband, KC), Angel Brindle (fiancé, Ken), Ray Pope (wife, Jennifer), Kasey Mecimore (husband, Chris), Shane Byrd (wife, Billie); great-grandchildren, Mavric Langenstein (wife Emily), Tristan Langenstein, Bree Langenstein, Braiden Brindle, Brody Brindle, Ariel Brindle, Kaylee Mecimore, Colton Mecimore, Mattie Pope; great-great-grandchildren, Cleo and Cody Langenstein; brother, Bobby Byrd (wife, Alice); sister, Dorothy Shermer.
A graveside service will be held Wednesday, August 7, 2024, at 3:00 pm at Sunrise Cemetery in Jonesville, NC with Pastor Jerry Shoemaker officiating. Having served his country in the Army, there will be military recognition.
Nicholson Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements. The family sends their appreciation to Gordon Hospice House and Nicholson funeral home.
