SSG RET Dale Ivey Beatty, 39, passed away unexpectedly on February 12, 2018. Dale was born in Statesville on August 7, 1978. He was a graduate of West Iredell High School and a member of Monticello United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife, Belinda (Summers), his sons Dustin and Lucas, and his daughter Sophia, his parents Jerry and Selene Beatty, his sister Amber Hepler and her husband, Micheal, niece Miceala, and numerous aunts, uncles, great aunts, and great uncles, all special and dear with a strong military service history.
Dale joined the Army National Guard in 1996 where he served as a Cannon Crewmember. During his service, he was mobilized to support clean-up efforts after Hurricane Fran and Hurricane Floyd. In March 2004, Dale was deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom with Battery C 1-113th Field Artillery. On November 15, 2004, Dale was injured severely in a Humvee explosion, leaving him a double amputee below the knees. For his service, Dale was awarded the Purple Heart, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal (3OLC), as well as numerous other awards.
Dale loved his family, friends, community, and fellow man. He was a wonderful father, husband, brother, son, friend, Patriot, veteran's advocate and role model. He truly believed in a life of service to others.
In 2008, Dale, along with his friend and battle buddy John Gallina, co-founded Purple Heart Homes to assist disabled veterans of all eras with housing solutions. In addition to his numerous military honors, Dale was also named a Top Ten CNN Hero in 2013, received the Congressional Medal of Honor Foundation Citizens Honor Award in 2014, Daughters of the American Revolution DAR Medal of Honor in 2012, Carolina's Freedom Foundation Patriotism Award in 2011, and Hope for The Warriors Hope & Courage Award in 2011. Dale also sat on the board of directors For Fisher House Foundation. In addition, Dale was the drummer for the band Outlaw 21.
Dale will lie in repose at Western Avenue Baptist Church on Friday, February 16, 2018 from 12pm until 2pm, with a service to follow. The public is invited to attend the service and pay tribute, however, the family requests that the burial following will be private.
