Mrs. Carolyn Sue "Connie" McMahan Thompson, 60, of Statesville, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, August 1, 2014, at Iredell Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Thompson was born August 6, 1953, in Jackson County, NC and was the daughter of the late Bee Claude "Blackie" McMahan and Rosa Loftis McMahan. She attended Sylva Webster High School and on August 18, 1968, she married Joseph Paul "Joe" Thompson, who survives. Mrs. Thompson was a member of Rocky Hill Baptist Church and she was the former manager for Old Bobs BBQ. She was a dedicated wife and mother and she spent most of her time caring for her daughter Gina, who suffers from Cerebral Palsy. Connie will be remembered by her family and friends for her ability to light up the room with her smile, and also her love for landscaping and gardening. She had a special gift for caring for others and making them feel special and loved. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Ricky McMahan and one nephew, Timmy McMahan. Mrs. Thompson is survived by her husband of 45 years, Joe Thompson, her daughter, Gina Thompson and son, Eric Thompson, both of the home. She is also survived by one sister, Brenda Eagle of Statesville, and two brothers, Steve McMahan (Beth) of Connelly Springs, NC and Jeff McMahan (Kim) of Statesville. A number of nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services for Mrs. Thompson will be conducted 4:00 pm Tuesday, August 5, 2014, at Rocky Hill Baptist Church with Rev. Henry Cook officiating. The family will visit with friends from 3:00 until 4:00 pm at the church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
