Clyde Cecil Blackwelder, 92, of Statesville, passed away Tuesday, May 23, 2017, at the Gordon Hospice House. Mr. Blackwelder was born in Iredell County on February 24, 1925, and was the son of the late Grover and Cora Munday Blackwelder. He was a graduate of Cool Spring High School and Mitchell Community College. He served during WWII in the US Navy. Upon his return from service, he went to work with Southern Screw where he worked for 30 plus years. Mr. Blackwelder attended Temple Baptist Church and was a member of the Lions Club. Mr. Blackwelder is survived by two sisters, Betty Kratz of Colmar, PA and Mary Sigmon of Statesville and one brother, William Holder of Statesville along with many nieces and nephews of whom he cherished dearly. Memorial services celebrating the life of Clyde Blackwelder will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, May 27, 2017, in the Nicholson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. James Childress officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery with full military honors provided by the Iredell County Veterans Burial Detail.
