Chuck Howell

February 25, 1946 — August 24, 2012

Charlie "Chuck" Doyce Howell went peacefully home to be with his Lord August 24, 2012 He was born February 25, 1946 on a small farm outside of Pikeville, North Carolina. He was the youngest son of the late Charlie Talmadge Howell and Irene Mayo Howell, and the youngest brother of Dr. Rudolph Howell, Frances Howell Moore, and Earlene Howell Worrell. After graduation from Charles B. Aycock High School in 1964, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served his Nation honorably in Germany and Florida. While serving in Florida, he met his wife and best friend of 41 years, Brenda Montgomery Howell of Bay Springs, Mississippi. They were married on June 18, 1971 in Mississippi. Chuck attended the University of Southern Mississippi and graduated in 1973 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting. Chuck was a member of Front Street Baptist Church. He had the honor of working at Mitchell Community College as the Accounting Supervisor where he enjoyed being able to assist students toward getting a college education. Together, Chuck and Brenda raised three sons they are very proud of : Ryan,(Renee) a U.S. Army Officer; Tim, the Fire Environment Program Branch Head for the North Carolina Forest Service, and Dustin, (Crystal) the System Administrator at Mitchell Community College. Chuck was also the proud Papaw of Austin and Kaylee Howell. Visitation for Chuck will be Wednesday, August 29 from 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm at Nicholson Funeral Home in Statesville. The funeral service will be held August 30, 2012 at 11:00 AM at Front Street Baptist Church with burial following in Oakwood Cemetery with full military honors. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to the Charlie D. Howell Scholarship Fund being established at Mitchell Community College in his memory. Donations may be mailed to Mitchell Community College, 500 West Broad Street, Statesville, NC 28677 ATTENTION: Charlie D, Howell Scholarship Fund.
