Mr. Charles Herman Schneider, 79, of Mooresville, passed away Monday, March 05, 2012 at his home. Mr. Schneider was born August 6, 1932 in Philadelphia, PA and was the son of the late William Conrad Schneider and Ida Hettler Schneider. He was a graduate of Marple-Newtown High School in Broomall, PA. Mr. Schneider was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps having served during the Korean War. On July 25, 1954, he married Avon Kasten Schneider, who survives. Mr. Schneider was a member of Rocky Mount UMC where he worked in many capacities including mission trips and administrative board. He was also a former Sunday school teacher at New Salem UMC. Mr. Schneider worked with Southern Bell, Bellsouth and retired from AT&T after 30 years of service from 1955 to 1985. He was active in the Telephone Pioneers having served as a former president. Following his retirement, Mr. Schneider enjoyed hunting, fishing and was a good handyman and used those handyman skills at church and around the house. In addition to his wife, Mr. Schneider is survived by two sons, Charles "Chuck" Conrad Schneider of Deray Beach, FL and Gregory "Greg" Allen Schneider of Raleigh, N.C. He is also survived by one grandson, Hagan Schneider and one granddaughter, Cameron Schneider along with one brother, William Schneider (Mary) of Hatboro, PA. He is further survived by four nephews and two nieces, including Sherri Goforth and Doug and Dan Blackmon. A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 am Thursday, March 8, 2012 at Rocky Mount UMC with Rev. Jamie Hamrick and Rev. Andrea Conder officiating. The family will visit with friends from 9:30 until 11:00 am at the church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with full military honors provided by Iredell County Military Burial Detail. Pallbearers will be Donnie Ray Matthews, Tony Goforth, Doug Blackmon, Dan Blackmon, Don Sherrill, Chris Goodwin and Walter Ross. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Rocky Mount UMC Building Fund, 1739 Perth Road, Mooresville, NC 28117 or to the charity of the donor's choice.
