Charles Preston Bost, 88 passed away unexpectedly at home on February 15, 2018. He was born on March 14, 1929 in Statesville, the son of the late William P. Bost and Elizabeth Weston Bost.
Charles served in the US Air Force, stationed at Eglin Air Force Base in Florida, for 30 years before retiring in 1974. He then went on to work in the Florida Forestry Division. Charles was married to Lillie Lorene Deal Bost, who survives. He was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses for over 40 years.
They moved back to North Carolina in the early 90's where he enjoyed building airplanes, furniture, cannons and inventing tools and gadgets. You may have seen his yellow Ultralite airplane fly over Statesville. He was a brilliant man whose life was full of so many great accomplishments. He was a cancer survivor, an artist, an author, a farmer and an engineer. He was always building something, growing something, writing something or making something. He tested one of the first hydrogen bombs. He was also a sky diver in air shows. When he was just 8 years old, he built a small bomb and blew up the family outhouse. Charles was well known at all the local restaurants as "trouble". He loved to go out to eat with his family. And he loved to teach art.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife Lillie Lorene Deal Bost, with whom he shared 69 years of marriage. Charles is survived by his daughters, Brenda Bost Wooten (Roy) and Cathy Bost Sonneville. He is preceded in death by his son Charles Eugene Bost (Mary). He is also survived by 6 grandkids, Celena Bost Borders, Rebecca Bost Stevenson (Pat), Michael Eugene Bost (Carrie), George Randall Joiner (Jennifer), Lara Yvette Joiner, and Candace Sonneville Rhyne (Jason). Charles has 12 great grandkids and 6 great, great grandkids. He is also survived by two sisters and one brother, Ruth Bost Dagenhart, Dorothy Bost Ottone and Rayford Bost, all of Statesville.
