Charles Lee Howell

August 17, 1927 — March 12, 2016

Charles Lee Howell, 88, of Statesville, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 12, 2016 at the Gordon Hospice House surrounded by his loving family. He was born on August 17, 1927 in Cleveland, Mississippi and was a son of the late Dr. John James Howell and Rosa Lee Beauchamp Howell. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, four sisters and one granddaughter. Mr. Howell was a retired Commercial Insurance Inspector from Equifax, Inc. He graduated from Delta State University and served in the U. S. Army following World War II in the 11th Airborne Division during the post war occupation of Japan. Prior to that he served in the Merchant Marines. He was a member, Sunday School Teacher of his class, the Wesleyan Bible Sunday School Class, Lay Leader and Board Member of Northview Wesleyan Church. He loved the Lord and was a wonderful Christian influence on his family and others. His many hobbies included reading, tending to his bluebird houses and fruit trees and playing the banjo for his own enjoyment. He was selftaught on the banjo. He enjoyed family gatherings and Mississippi State Football. On February 8, 1949 in Kilmichael, Mississippi, he married the former Imozell Box who survives. Also surviving are a son, Steve Howell (Betty) of Collierville, TN., three daughters, Phyllis Chapman (Bob) of Eads, TN., Donna McCann (Mike) of Statesville and Marcia Bledsoe (Jim) of Bartlett, TN. along with a sister, Rosalyn Howell McDuffie of West Monroe, LA. Also surviving are 16 grandchildren and many great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. Services celebrating Mr. Howell's life will be conducted at 3:00 P.M. Tuesday, March 15, 2016 at Northview Wesleyan Church with Rev. Brad Pharr officiating. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service and following the service in the church sanctuary. Condolences may be sent online to the family to www.nicholsonfunerals.com.
