Charles Harper Bumgarner

Charles Harper (Sonny) Bumgarner, 78, of Statesville, died Sunday, January 3, 2016 at the Gordon Hospice House. Born in Iredell County on July 4, 1937, he was a son of the late Fred Allen Bumgarner and Lois Wyatt Bumgarner. On December 22, 1961, he married the former Grace Rinehardt who survives. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Judy Irene Bumgarner Travis in 2004, sisters: Rachel B. Ladd and Joyce B. Brown and a brother, Fred (Red) Bumgarner, Jr. Sonny was retired from Fiber Industries and attended Wayside and Cool Spring Schools. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1955 to 1959. Survivors in addition to his wife, are two daughters, Wanda Denise Bumgarner Winebarger and Debra Lynn Bumgarner Lambert (Rick) all of Statesville, along with a brother, Johnny Bumgarner (Elaine) of Mocksville and a sister, Kaye Campbell (Jackie) of Harmony. Also surviving are five grandchildren and one great grandson. Graveside services are scheduled for 2:00 P.M. Wednesday at Abilene church of Christ with Leon Cash officiating.
