Carolyn Morrison

February 18, 1937 — June 15, 2024

Statesville

Carolyn Grimm Morrison, 87, passed on Saturday, June 15, 2024, in her hometown of Statesville, North Carolina.

She was born in Iredell County on February 18, 1937, to Laurence Franklin Grimm and Ethel Elizabeth Gibson Grimm. Carolyn grew up surrounded by siblings, aunts, uncles, and cousins who all affectionally called her “Skuffie”. Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Bob Morrison, a daughter, Susan Morrison Wagner, a brother, Johnny Grimm, and two great-grandchildren.

Carolyn was a graduate of Scotts High School where she loved being a school bus driver, being a majorette, and playing basketball. She worked as a business professional as an administrator for sales and marketing for Rubbermaid. She also worked as an administrative assistant at Iredell Health Systems, as a CNA, and volunteered for the elderly at Eden Gardens.

Carolyn overcame many hardships in her life, being a widow and raising a family as one of the pioneer single moms. She created a life for herself and her children and a career that she was very proud of. She had many close lifelong friends because of her work ethic and dedication. Carolyn was a very strong, caring woman who loved people. She was also very fun-loving, sassy (at times) and a little mischievous. She was always positive and spirited. Carolyn loved chocolate, (especially Hershey kisses), VW bugs, puzzle books and coloring with crayons. She was very nature oriented and loved giraffes, butterflies, trees, flowers and watching the birds at her feeders. She saw beauty in everything and liked to collect flowers and leaves to create arrangements for display in her home. Carolyn was an avid and exuberant sports fan and loved the Carolina Tarheels. More than anything, she loved her family, and being MeMe to her grandchildren and great grandchildren. They were the light of her life.

Those left to cherish her memory include a son, Butch Morrison, and his wife Trish, a daughter, Mary Anne Church and her husband Joel and nine grandchildren: Jennifer Griggs (Richard), Mary Carol Wagner, Steven Ratcliffe (Marissa), Todd Morrison (Elizabeth), Emily Morrison (Bryan Olson), Johnny Church, Jesse Church, Mackenzie Chapski (Brent), Taylor Cook (Tyler), and 10 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Anne Grimm Lamson (John) who lovingly called her the “Head Big Sister,” beloved nephews Mark and Peter and a special lifelong cousin and best friend, Alene Gibson Lippard.

A private graveside will be held. Carolyn was always a “Daddy’s girl” and will be laid to rest with him and next to her mother.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Giraffe Conservation Foundation, 17 S. Magnolia Ave., Orlando, FL 32801 or The National Audubon Society, Attn: Donations, 225 Varick St., 7th. Floor, New York, NY 10014.
