Carolyn Hurst Ammon

May 25, 1922 — February 7, 2019

Mrs. Carolyn Hurst Harbin Ammon, 96, of Statesville, died February 7, 2019 at the Gordon Hospice House. Born in Florence, South Carolina on May 25, 1922, she was a daughter of the late John Frank Harbin and Ethel Emily Presnell Harbin. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bob Van Ammon, whom she married on January 4, 1942.



Mrs. Ammon was a very active member of Broad Street United Methodist Church having served as the church secretary, kept the nursery for many years and was her Sunday school class treasurer. She also loved her Magnolia Street Canasta Club, reading and volunteering as long as she was able at Iredell Memorial Hospital. She retired after 32 years as office manager from Bartlett Milling Company. She graduated from Statesville Senior High School and Mitchell Community College.



Surviving are three sons, Robert Vance Ammon (Linda) of New Jersey, Jeffrey Lynn Ammon (Deborah)and Andrew Steven Ammon (Torie) all of Statesville. Also surviving are 6 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.



Services celebrating her life will be conducted at 1 :00 P.M. Monday at Broad Street United Methodist Church with Rev. Dr. Mary John Dye officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery at 3:00 P.M. today (Sunday). The family will greet friends on Monday following the service at the church.
