Buzz Troutman

June 27, 1938 — February 20, 2013

Mr. Leon "Buzz" Troutman, Jr., 74, of Troutman, passed away Wednesday, February 20, 2013 at Gordon Hospice House. Mr. Troutman was born June 27, 1938 in Iredell County and he was the son of Leon Troutman Sr. and Nellie Orren Troutman. He was a graduate of Troutman High School and on June 18, 1960 he was married to Linda Hartness Troutman, who survives. Prior to his retirement, Mr. Troutman worked with J.C. Penney Distribution for 41 years and he served six years in the Army Reserves. He was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church until it closed in June 1995 and then became a member of Troutman First United Methodist Church. He served on numerous boards and most recently served as Scout Coordinator for Troutman Boy Scout Troop 174. Along with his parents, Mr. Troutman was preceded in death by one sister, Mary Day Troutman Odum, his step-mother, Inez Shook Troutman, one step-brother, Franklin Shook and two step-sisters, Reba Shook Warren and Helen Shook Alexander. In addition of his wife of 52 years, Linda Troutman, he is also survived by two daughters, Lisa Mills (Perry) and Laura Crater (Virgil), both of Troutman, two granddaughters, Ashley Mills Poteat (Josh) of Statesville and Katherine Nicole Mills of Troutman, one grandson, his best little buddy, Christian Mills of Troutman, his great granddaughter, Ella Brooke Poteat. He is also survived by one step granddaughter, Emily Crater of Statesville, one step great grandson, Evan Crater of Statesville and one nephew Leon "Marty" Odum of Troutman. He is further survived by two step brothers, Clyde Shook (Sue) of Elkin NC and Sam Shook (Shelby) of Conyers GA and one step-sister, Ruth Law (Keith) of Greenback TN, one step sister-in-law Ann Shook and one step brother-in-law, Joe Alexander of Statesville. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services for Mr. Troutman will be conducted at 11:00 am, Saturday, February 23, 2013 at Troutman First United Methodist Church with Rev. Mike Carr and Rev. Joe Parker officiating. Burial will follow in the Troutman Historical Cemetery. The family will visit with friends on Friday evening from 5:30 until 8:00 pm at Nicholson Funeral Home. The family would like to thank the nurses, staff and patients at West Iredell Dialysis for their care, friendship and compassion shown to Buzz over the last 9 years. The family is very grateful for the excellent care Buzz received while he was a patient in ICU at Iredell Memorial Hospital and the loving care the family received during our short stay at Gordon Hospice House. The family would also like to thank their friends and neighbors for all of their love, support and prayers.
