Buddy Joe Sigmon

Mr. Buddy Joe Sigmon, 85, of Statesville, passed away Friday, September 25, 2015, at Maple Leaf Health Care in Statesville. He was born in Catawba County on September 20, 1930, and was the son of the late Connelly James Sigmon and Nellie Sigmon Sigmon. He was a graduate of Claremont High School Class of 1948 and The Coyner Electrical School. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1950 to 1954 on the USS Orion during the Korean War. He was a retired Signalman for Norfolk Southern Railroad most of his working career which spanned almost 40 years. He enjoyed gardening and working in the yard and was the jack of all trades. He was a lifelong member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Claremont. On December 16, 1956, he was married to Shirley Abernathy Sigmon, who passed away March 13, 2011. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers, George C. Sigmon and James Nick Sigmon along with two brothers-in-law, David Hunsucker and Sam Propst. He is survived by three sons, Timothy Wayne Sigmon (Tina), Kevin Mark Sigmon, and Randy Scott Sigmon (Kim), all of Statesville; four grandchildren, Taylor and Tess Sigmon and Katie and Mary Sigmon; two great-grandchildren, Jayden and Payton Sigmon. He is also survived by two sisters, Raenell Hunsucker of Catawba and Nancy Propst of Claremont. Two sisters-in-law, Betty Sigmon of Charlotte and Cathy Sigmon of Claremont also survive. A celebration of life service will be conducted 2:00 PM Tuesday, September 29, 2015, at St. Mark's Lutheran Church with Pastor Gary Haddock and Pastor Paul Christ officiating. Burial will follow in the Iredell Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by the Iredell County Veterans Burial Detail. The family will visit with friends from 1:00 until 2:00 Tuesday at the church. Active pallbearers will be Randy Breitzman, Dale Hunsucker, Donnie Pennell, Nick Potter, Michael Pope, and Michael Korn.
