Bruce Eugene Pope, 83 of Statesville, passed away peacefully Sunday, September 15, 2024, at his son’s home following a lengthy illness.

He was born in Iredell County on September 9, 1941, to the late Carl Pope and Tressie Sigmon Pope.

Bruce retired from Duke Power, was a cattle farmer, loved fishing, painting houses, and watching old westerns. More than anything he loved his family and spending time with them.

Those left to cherish his memory include a son, Rodney Pope, a daughter, Mary Gantt, three grandchildren, Chris Pope (Kathleen), Mary Pope (Austin Mayberry), Taylor Gantt, two great-grandchildren, Callie Mae Pope, Melanie Grace Mayberry, and another on the way. He is further survived by Barbara Loftin, the mother of his children, two brothers, Dale Pope (Nancy), Lanny Pope (Carol), and four sisters, Denise Neighbors, Pansy McIntosh, Gladys Brown (Larry), and Carla Ann Woodie (Tony).

A graveside service will be held Thursday, September 19, 2024, at 1:00 pm at Bethel Methodist Church with Pastor Jeff Carson officiating. The family will visit with friends Wednesday evening from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Nicholson Funeral Home.

The family would like to thank his caregiver, Elizabeth Pope, who kept him comfortable in his final days.
