Brenda Mason

Brenda Carol Mason, 66, of Oak Island, passed away Sunday, June 30, 2013 at Iredell Memorial Hospital. She was born May 25, 1947 in Iredell County and was the daughter of the late Lawrence Mason and Gladys Myers Mason. Mrs. Mason was a graduate of Central High School and Catawba Tech with a nursing degree. She was a member of Snow Creek United Methodist Church and retired from Ocean Trails Nursing Home as a nurse. Caring for the elderly was one of her greatest loves. Brenda will be missed greatly by her family and friends and by those she has cared for. Everyone will remember her amazing smile, gently ways, and incredible spirit. She is survived by her soul mate and companion of 23 years, Butch Riddick, of Oak Island, NC, together they shared the adventure of a lifetime. Years were spent fishing, reading, shell collecting, and just taking in the beauty of creation. She is further survived by a daughter, Rhea Lamb (Bill), of Statesville, two sons, John Grant (Tandra), of Harmony and James Grant, of Texas. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, Lawrence and Grant Lippard, Justin Lamb, Olivia Lamb, Adam and Savannah Grant, and Aaron and Amber Grant. Also surviving is Lorene Riddick (Mamarene) who she considered her second mother. A funeral service for Mrs. Mason will be conducted at 11:00AM on Friday, July 5, 2013 at Snow Creek United Methodist Church with Rev. Gervase C. Hitch officiating. Burial will follow in the Snow Creek United Methodist Church Cemetery.
