Bob Jurney

June 26, 1925 — March 19, 2014

Mr. Robert Lee "Bob" Jurney, 88, of Statesville, passed away Wednesday, March 19, 2014, at Autumn Care in Statesville. Mr. Jurney was born June 26, 1925, in Iredell County and was the son of the late Colin Campbell Jurney and Julie Blanche Fowler Jurney. He was a graduate of Statesville High School and on June 12, 1946, he married Susie Mae Stevenson Jurney, who survives. Mr. Jurney was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served during World War II in the European Theatre including the Battle of the Bulge. He was a retired rural route carrier for the U.S. Postal Service. Mr. Jurney had many enjoyments in his life but most notable were his church, fishing, woodworking, and his grandchildren. He also enjoyed traveling to Europe. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, William Henry Jurney and three sisters, Virginia J. Steadman, Katherine J. Farrar, and Helen J. Futrell. In addition to his wife of 67 years, Susie Mae Jurney, Mr. Jurney is survived by two sons, Steven Fowler Jurney (Betsy) of Statesville and Charles Thomas Jurney (Cathy) of Terrell, NC along with one grandson, Wesley Jurney and two granddaughters, Alicia and Jessica Jurney. Graveside rites with full military honors provided by the Iredell County Veterans Burial Detail will be at 11:00 AM Saturday, March 22, 2014, in Oakwood Cemetery. A memorial service will follow 12:00 PM at First ARP Church with Rev. Philip McCoy and Rev. Charlene Hutchings officiating. The family will visit with friends Friday evening March 21, from 6:30 until 8:00 PM at Nicholson Funeral Home. Memorials may be given to First ARP Church, P.O. Box 1607, Statesville, NC 28687.
