Blaine Nelson Beaty

Blaine Nelson Beaty, 80, passed away Thursday, Sept. 7, 2017, at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston Salem. He was born on Sept. 9, 1936, in Statesville, to the late Delphia Sherrill Beaty and Custus Howard (Buck) Beaty. He was reared and spent most of his life in the Cool Spring community and was well known by most everyone. Blaine graduated valedictorian from Cool Spring High School in 1954. He was drafted into the US Army in 1959, where he spent 27 months until he was discharged in 1962. Most of his time in the army was spent at Killeen Base, Texas where he worked under the direction of the Department of Defense with the Manhattan Project. He spent 44 years working at J.C. Penney Distribution Center in various capacities and retired from Human Resources in 1998. In his spare time, Blaine raised gardens, worked with cattle, and rode his John Deere tractor. He was a life-long member of Cool Spring United Methodist Church. Blaine is survived by his wife of 57 years, Charlotte "Ann" Porter Beaty; three sons, Thomas Beaty (Melody) of Statesville, N.C., Kenneth Beaty (Monica) of Lake Orion, M.I., and Chris Beaty (Missy) of Statesville, N.C.; five granddaughters whom he loved dearly, Violet, Nicole, McKinley, Sofia, and Lillian Beaty; sister, Jean Settle; and one niece, Mary Alice Moore Christenbury. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a nephew John Beaty Moore, adult sister Virginia Beaty Moore, brother Dwight Beaty (age 3), and three infant siblings: Henry, Margaret, and Patsy Ann Beaty. The visitation will take place at Cool Spring United Methodist Church, 1902 Mocksville Hwy., Cleveland, N.C. 27013, Sunday, Sept. 10, from 2:00 - 3:30 p.m., and the funeral service will follow at 4 p.m. Blaine will be laid to rest at Fifth Creek Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Statesville, N.C. with military honors provided by Harmony American Legion Post 113. Pallbearers are Doug Drye, Jeff Drye, Al Jones, Bruce Porter, Mark Porter, and Jim Sherrill. Memorials may be given to Cool Spring United Methodist Church or a charity of the donor's choice.
