Betty Sue Orrell

Betty Sue Harding Orrell, 77, of Statesville, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family on Monday, October 23, 2017. She was born in Davie County on January 7, 1940 to the late Leonard Wood Harding and Lettie Lea Manual Walker. Mrs. Orrell was a graduate of Statesville Senior High School and was married to Douglas Milton Orrell, who survives. She was retired from Brookdale Cleaners where she worked as the counter clerk. She was a member of Calvary Community Church for over 45 years and the church was a big part of her life. Betty loved to sew, especially making items for her family. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend who will be dearly missed. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Douglas M. Harding. Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Doug; two sons, Steve R. Englebert (Margaret) of Statesville and Shawn Layne Wood (Addam) of Denver, NC; a daughter, Debra Englebert Johnson (David) of Statesville; five grandsons, Ray Englebert, Jr., Daniel E. Englebert, Justin Cody Keller, Michael Alexander Layne, and Ethan Shawn Layne; two granddaughters, Brandi Sue-Lee Johnson and Chloe Madison Layne; and seven great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held 11:00 am pm Thursday, October 26, 2017 at the Nicholson Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Jeff Coley and Rev. Mitchell Rash officiating. Burial will follow at the Iredell Memorial Gardens Cemetery. The family will visit with friends at the funeral home prior to the service from 10:00 until 11:00am. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Gordon Hospice House, 2341 Simonton Road, Statesville, NC 28625 or to Calvary Community Church, 334 N. Oakland Avenue, Statesville, NC 28677.
