Matthew 5:16 Betty Church Morphis, 87, of Statesville, passed away January 4, 2016 at Iredell Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Morphis was born December 4, 1928 in Wilkes County, NC and was the daughter of the late Rufus B. Church and Clara McNeil Church. She was a graduate of Wilkes County Schools and Mars Hill College. On August 10, 1949, she was married to the late Walter Hans Morphis, who passed away on December 14, 2012. She was a Dietician with Statesville City Schools, Assistant Dietician with Mitchell College and was a Massage Therapist, who was loved by many. She had a huge garden when she lived on Imperial Heights Rd. that included grape vines, tomato plants, watermelons, cantaloupes, green beans and a rose garden. She was a member of Western Avenue Baptist Church, she loved her mission trips to Guatemala and Jamaica. Every Saturday, she made a pound cake that she would take to church and share with the ushers and her Sunday School Class. "Betty Morphis is Jesus in Action, she exhibited a no nonsense, radical, politically incorrect disregard for anything masquerading as Christianity." Mrs. Morphis is survived by two daughters, Sandi Greene and husband, Phil of Statesville, Pam Morphis and partner, Sheryl of Durango, CO, four grandchildren, Brian Greene (Natalie), Jacob Morphis, Rebecca Crouch (Blake), Kerrisa Morphis; five great grandchildren, Bryson and Claire Greene, Aidan, Annslee and Adeline Crouch; one brother, Dan Church (Jo) of Nashville, TN; sister-in-law, Evelyn Church of Winston-Salem, NC and many nieces and nephews. A celebration of life service will be held 6:30 p.m. Thursday, January 7, 2016 at Western Avenue Baptist Church with Rev. Jeff Spry officiating. The family will visit with friends following the service.
