Betty Joyce Stegall

October 18, 1927 — April 29, 2017

Mrs. Betty Joyce Poole Stegall, 89, of Statesville, departed this worldly existence on Saturday, April 29, 2017 at Autumn Care as a result of complications from dementia and Alzheimer's disease. She is now in heaven with her Lord and Savior as well as her loving husband, Sam, Mommienelle, Grandaddy, Aunt Louise, Uncle Jim and many of her friends. Betty was born on October 18, 1927 in Greenville, S.C. to James Arthur Poole and Nelle Jackson Poole. She graduated from high school at Liberty High School and studied piano at Furman College. After her father was transferred to Marshville, N.C., she met and married the love of her life, Robert Samuel Stegall on April 4, 1948. In 1953, Sam and Betty moved to Statesville after Sam took a job as buyer at Barger Millwork. Betty worked for a while for the City Of Statesville. Then she began teaching private piano lessons at her home on May Drive. In 1961 Sam and Betty purchased Bunch Farm and Garden and renamed it The Farm And Garden Store, and it is still going strong today. Betty sang in the choir and played the piano at First Baptist Church for many years. After she lost Sam in 2008, Betty worked at the store until 2009 when she came under the grip of dementia. Betty is survived by sons Bobby Stegall (Joy) of Statesville and Mike Stegall of Winston-Salem, grandsons: Robby Stegall (Jackie) of Mooresville, Matt Stegall (Candie) of Mocksville, Chris Stegall of Statesville and great granddaughters, Savannah Stegall of Mocksville and Olivia Stegall of Mooresville. Following a private burial at Oakwood Cemetery, services celebrating Betty's life will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, May 3, 2017 at First Baptist Church with Dr. Nelson Granade and Dr. Jack Causey officiating. The family will then receive friends following the service in Adams Hall of the church. Condolences may be sent online to the family to www.nicholsonfunerals.com. Memorials may be given to Hospice & Palliative Care of Iredell County, 2347 Simonton Rd., Statesville, N.C. 28625 or to the charity of the donor's choice. Nicholson Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements.
