Betty Joyce Florence Grundman

Betty Joyce Florence Philippus Grundman, 90, of Statesville, died Monday, March 5, 2018, at the Gordon Hospice House. She was born in Grand Rapids, MI on March 25, 1927 and was the daughter of the late Evert Albert Philippus and Florence Annette Edenstrom Philippus.



Mrs. Grundman was a graduate of Union High School in Grand Rapids and she received her BSW in Social Work from the University of Michigan. On May 2, 1953, she married Richard Grundman and together they shared 60 years of marriage until his death on September 1, 2013.



Prior to her retirement, she worked with Grand Rapids Child Guidance Clinic as a psychiatric social worker. She attended Monticello United Methodist Church and enjoyed participating in the women's quilting group. She was a member of the Michigan Alumni Assoc. Grand Rapids Chapter.



Betty had a passion for music and loved playing the piano. She also had love for art and especially enjoyed painting.



Left to cherish her memory are her children, Douglas Grundman (Helen) of Providence, RI and Marjorie Sales (Randy) of Claremont, NC. She is also survived by two step-grandchildren, Paulie and Jana Sales of Claremont, and her frolicking cat Dixie.
