Betty James

Betty Josey James, 87, of Statesville, died unexpectedly on Monday, January 29, 2018, at the Gordon Hospice House.



She was born in Catawba County on April 25, 1930 and was the daughter of the late Della Mae Josey. Betty attended Iredell County schools and in 1965, she married Everette James, who preceded her in death in 1993.



Betty was a member of Front Street Baptist Church and for over 25 years, she and her late husband were owners & operators of James Grill.



Betty was a happy go lucky woman and loved life. She enjoyed bowling, dancing, and softball. She sponsored a local softball team on which her grandson and friends played. She dearly loved her family. Her grandkids and great-grandkids were her passion and she especially loved attending their ballgames. She was a huge Braves fan.



In addition to her mother and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Glenna Josey Waugh, a son, Charles Edward Waugh and son-in-law, Mickey Fox.



She is survived by her daughter, Peggy W. Fox, two grandsons, Bradley Fox (Chris) and Kevin Fox, all of Statesville. She is also survived by one niece, Linda W. Bolton (Mike) of Stony Point, one nephew, Jerry Waugh of Seattle, WA, one great-grandson, Luke Fox of Statesville, two great-granddaughters, Lacey Fox of Wilmington and Mikki Fox of Statesville, and one great niece, Carrie E. Wall (Jorge Palacios) and great great-nieces Madison and Lennon Palacios of Rockaway, NJ.



Funeral services honoring the life of Betty James will be conducted at 3:00 PM Friday, February 2, 2018, at Front Street Baptist Church with Rev. Tim Stutts officiating. Burial will follow in the Oakwood Cemetery. The family will visit with friends from 1:30 until 3:00 PM at the church.
