Betty Hasz

Betty Mull Hasz, 74, of Maple Leaf Health Care Center in Statesville, and formerly of Gastonia, N.C., passed away unexpectedly Sunday, February 6, 2011 at Davis Regional Medical Center. Mrs. Hasz was born May 2, 1936 in Gastonia, N.C. and was the daughter of the late Robert L. Mull and Mable Pryor Mull. She attended Gaston County schools and on August 29, 1973, she was married to Wally Hasz, who survives. Mrs. Hasz was disability retired from American and Efford Thread in Mt. Holly, N.C. Mrs. Hasz loved God, family, friends, and UNC Tarheel Basketball. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hasz was also preceded in death by two brothers, Ray Mull and Clarence Mull, both of Gaston County along with one sister, Ethel Boatright of Gastonia, N.C. Mrs. Hasz is survived by her husband, Wally Hasz of Statesville; two sons, William Scott Cherry and wife Joy of Trinity, N.C., and Thomas Richard Cherry and wife Sue of Mt. Holly, N.C.; one granddaughter, Tara SoRolle of Sacramento, CA., along with three grandsons, Robert Shook, Ben Shook, and Brian Cherry, all of Shelby, N.C. She is also survived by eight great-grandchildren and a sister-in-law, Vera Mull, of Newport, TN. A service to celebrate the life of Betty Mull Hasz will be conducted 2:00 PM Friday, February 11, 2011 in the Nicholson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ernest Speaks officiating. The family will visit with friends from 1:00 until 2:00 prior to the memorial service. Burial will be at a later date.
