Betty G. Leckie

April 24, 1947 — March 30, 2015

Betty G. Leckie, daughter of Whitfield and Susan Faust Leckie, sister of Sylvia L. Payne, left this world on March 30, 2015 to be with her Lord and Savior. Betty was an alumnus of Mitchell College, working for many years as a quality control chemist in Greenville, SC as well as Lenoir and Statesville, NC. She did not fear death itself. Her only fear was the suffering she might endure in her final days. Her recent journey was a witness on 'how to die' to those around her. She loved the outdoors, loved to travel, and loved animals, especially cats. She enjoyed photography, cooking, working in her garden, and especially enjoyed listening to gospel music. She maintained her sharp sense of humor and dry wit right up until her passing. She was preceded in death by her father, Whitfield, and mother Susan. She served as a trustee on the board and member of the church choir at Providence United Methodist Church. She is survived by her sister, Sylvia L. Payne and brother-in-law Jim of Newton, along with a number of cousins and dear friends in the Providence community. Funeral services for Miss Leckie will be conducted 3:00 PM Friday, April 3, 2015, at Providence United Methodist Church with Rev. Bob Nations and Rev. Ron Karriker officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will visit with friends following in the church fellowship hall. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the Gordon Hospice House, 2341 Simonton Road, Statesville, NC 28625 or to Providence UMC, 1273 Old Mocksville Road, Statesville, NC 28625. Online condolences can be made to the family at www.nicholsonfunerals.com and Nicholson Funeral Home is serving the family of Betty Leckie.
