Berdena Gibson

Mrs. Berdena Rufty Gibson, 91, of Statesville, passed away, Thursday, June 22, 2017 at Rosewood Assited Living in Harmony. Mrs. Gibson was born July 24, 1925 in Alexander County to the late James Otis Rufty and Mary Hessie York Rufty. She was a graduate of Stony Point High School and was married to the late Clyde Franklin Gibson. She was the plant managers secretary at Beaunit/ Burlington Industries until her retirement. She was a lifelong member of Stony Point Methodist Church and was the church organist for 50 years. She taught piano lessons for many years and loved her family. She is survived by one son, Garry Gibson (Terri) of Statesville, two granddaughters, Laticia Gibson Averitt (Eric) of Stony Point, Amelia Gibson (Matt Carter) of Statesville, one grandson, Jay Gibson of Statesville, four great grandchildren, Aubrey Gibson, Franklin Averitt, Levi and Emma Pearl Carter and one brother, York Rufty (Lucille) of Stony Point. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Cynthia Gibson Andrews and son-in-law, Charles Andrews. Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 p.m. Monday, June 26, 2017 at Stony Point Methodist Church with Rev. Donnie Durham officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will visit with friends following the service. Memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Iredell County and to Stony Point Methodist Church.
