Benjamin Harold Rash

Mr. Benjamin Harold Rash, 73, of Olin, died Thursday, May 21, 2015 at his home surrounded by friends and family. Born in Iredell County on May 31, 1941, he was a son of the late Gurney Gwaltney Rash and Eunice Henderson Rash. On November 26, 1959, he married the former Marilyn Goforth who survives. They were married 56 years. Harold was retired from Jack B. Wooten Trucking but worked several years as an exterminator. He enjoyed fishing and spending time with family. He loved bluegrass and country music. He was a member of Monticello Baptist Church and attended Union Grove School. He served his country in the U. S. Air Force. He was preceded in death by a brother, Lynn Rash and a sister, Lavon Rash. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Steve Rash (Beth) of Olin, a daughter, Marcia Ireland (Mark) of Statesville, his Mother-In-Law, Ruby M. Goforth, of the home and grandchildren: Marcus Ireland (Callie Smith), Marissa Ireland Ratcliffe (Steven), Ashleigh Rash, Annalise Rash and a great grandson, Sawyer Ratcliffe. Also surviving are sisters: Evadean Lippard (Clyde), Helen Shumaker (Edward) and Glenda Cass all of Statesville, Lois Shumaker (David), Louise Dowell (Lyman) all of Olin, along with brothers: J.B. Rash (Dottie), Franklin Rash (Beverly) , all of Statesville and Allen Rash (Corrine) of Union Grove. Also surviving are sisters-in-law: Jane Rash of Olin and Louise Fulp (Harold) of Swansboro. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive. Services celebrating Harold's life will be conducted at 4:00 P.M. Sunday, May 24, 2015 at Sweet Home Baptist Church with Rev. Gary Blalock and Edward Shumaker officiating. The family will receive friends in the church sanctuary from 2:00 until 4:00 prior to the service and burial will follow in the Grassy Knob Baptist Church Cemetery with full military rites presented by the American Legion Post # 113 of Harmony. Active and honorary pallbearers will be grandsons and nephews. Condolences may be sent online to the family to www.nicholsonfunerals.com.
