Barbara "Bobbie" Jean O'Carroll

Barbara "Bobbie" Jean McDaniel O'Carroll, 81, of Statesville, died Saturday, January 27, 2018, at the Gordon Hospice House. She was born in Iredell County on January 23, 1937 and was the eldest daughter of the late Joseph Conway McDaniel and Barbara Lee Robertson McDaniel.



She was a graduate of Central High School and received her Masters Degree in Mathematics from East Carolina University.



She worked as a Mathematician at US Army Research and Development Center at Fort Bellvoir



On August 16, 1958 she married John Patrick O'Carroll who preceded her in death on October 9, 1998.



Bobbie was one of a kind. She was a devoted Christian who shared the love of Jesus with her family and friends. She was a wonderful wife to John, awesome mother to Kathy, and a fantastic Grandmother. She loved her family well. Her family knew that they were highly valued by her. She would spend her time on the people in her life, from family to friends. When someone was sick, she could be counted on to be at their side. Her priorities were eternal ones, and her family knows Christ because of the Godly influence that she showed them. She took time to pray for people and could always be counted on for that. Bobbie loved reading with a passion. She had an expansive book collection and wouldn't have wanted to be caught without a book. She had an appreciation for literature and music. She enjoyed gardening, birds, and was a member of The Field and Stream Garden Club.



She was an excellent cook. Her family has warm memories of sharing her lovingly prepared dishes during their many special occasions. Her daughter especially loved her spaghetti!



Bobbie's life was truly a blessing to her family and friends. She will be dearly missed. Our hope is in Christ and the joy of joining Bobbie in the Golden City of Heaven, for those of us who know Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.



Left to cherish her memory is her beloved daughter, Kathy Jones (James) of Statesville; six grandchildren, Corie Jordon (John) of Statesville, Cleis Bonham, and Briea Parris (Mitch), both of Sylva, John Jordan, Sean Jordan, and Noelle Jordan, all of Statesville. She is also survived by one sister, Wilma McDaniel of Boone, one brother, Kent McDaniel (Janice) of Statesville, two nephews, Scott Templeton (Carol) of Winston-Salem and Joel McDaniel of Statesville and one niece, Nicole McDaniel of Charlotte.



Funeral services honoring the life of Bobbie O'Carroll will be conducted at 1:00 PM Saturday, February 3, 2018, in the Nicholson Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Saturday morning from 11:30 until 1:00 PM at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Gordon Hospice House, 2341 Simonton Road, Statesville, NC 28625.
