A.W. "Bill" Johnson

Alfred William "Bill" Johnson, 84, of the Snow Creek Community, passed away, Wednesday, September 7, 2016 at Rosewood Assisted Living in Harmony, NC. Mr. Johnson was born September 4, 1932 in Williamsburg, VA and was the son of the late Alfred Edgar Johnson and Bertha Weber Johnson. He was a graduate of Central High School and on November 29, 1952, was married to Ercelle Pharr Johnson, who survives of the home. He was a member of Snow Creek United Methodist Church and was a former member of Race Street United Methodist Church. He was retired from the NC Department of Transportation and was a part time farmer. He was a 32nd degree Mason with the Snow Creek Lodge, was a founder of Trinity Volunteer Fire Department and also served on the Board of Directors. He was a family man, who loved hunting, fishing, farming, especially planting crops and the Atlanta Braves. In addition to his wife, he is survived by four sons, Alfred Larry Johnson (Cathy), William "Bill" Johnson, Mark Johnson (Karen), Neal Johnson (Tina) all of Statesville; 8 grandchildren, Stacy Johnson, Heather J. Chenevey (Andy), Brandon Johnson (Amy), Matthew Johnson (Amanda), Aaron Johnson (Emily), Luke Johnson, Lance Johnson, Alleigh Johnson and five great grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 10, 2016 at Snow Creek United Methodist Church with Rev. Marsha Joyner officiating. The body will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the funeral hour. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Masonic Rites. The family will visit with friends following the service in the church fellowship hall. Active pallbearers will be Mr. Johnson's grandsons. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Snow Creek UMC Cemetery Fund or the donor's choice and online condolences may be made to the family at www.nicholsonfunerals.com Nicholson Funeral Home is serving the family of A.W.
